DAPHNE continued

Daphne Availability

Daphne prices below should be taken as a guide only. It is very difficult  in February - March when I prepare the season's catalogue, to know which Daphnes will achieve a saleable standard for that season. Sometimes a plant will be perfectly healthy, but just a little smaller than I had intended and so the price will be reduced. In some cases, I will have plants propagated by different methods (the possibilities being cuttings, seed, grafting and micropropagation). These can result in different rates of development and consequently different prices. Therefore, it can save us all a lot of time if you e-mail me through your order for confirmation of both availability and price before sending your cheque.

Due to a continually high number of forward orders for Daphne, we are sold out of many already, even for September, and are desperately low on others. Clearly this situation can only worsen as the season progresses.

Please do feel free to ring, or better still please, e-mail (this gives me opportunity to check before replying) to check availability prior to ordering. Alternatively, please fill your cheque out as a "not to exceed" (see Terms and Conditions" for details of how to do this.)

If I am unable to supply the Daphne that you want at present, I can add your name to the waiting list. This is an ongoing cycle - as plants become ready to go out, I contact those people at the top of the list. "First come, first served" is the underlying principle! Again please e-mail me, but do include your full postal address and telephone number .

Do not include money for them at this stage. This does not commit you to them, but it will put you higher up the list for next year. I am sorry that this has become necessary. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need anything clarified.

DAPHNE acutiloba
Medium evergreen of upright habit with narrow leathery leaves and white flowers in July followed by red berries. Shade tolerant.

DAPHNE acutiloba 'Fragrant Cloud' CD&R 626
A  wild derivative of D. acutiloba, introduced from China by Martyn Rix, the beautiful white flowers in April remind me more of D. blagayana, since they are much larger than those of most Daphne. The plant however, is quite upright growing and the evergreen leaves are much larger. The scent is intoxicating. Proving to be well behaved for us, though happier in a shady site, I believe that this showy plant has a fantastic future.
£18.00

Daphne albowiana DAPHNE albowiana
An extremely well behaved small evergreen shrub growing to less than a metre tall by a little more wide. With large glossy green leaves it is very similar to D. pontica although we find it actually does better. Unusual yellow spidery flowers in April (just before D. pontica) followed by red berries. Best in a shady site.
£16.50

DAPHNE alpina
Dwarf shrub for the sunny rock garden. Upright and compact, grey green leaves contrast well with the fragrant white flower clusters in May and June. It has orange red fruits.
None available this season

DAPHNE altaica
A semi-evergreen shrub to 2m high of upright habit. The fragrant white flowers occur in clusters in May-June followed by red fruits. Attractive long thin greyish green leaves. Our stock came originally from the Linz Botanic Garden, Austria! It thrives in sun or light shade and is one of the less difficult!

Daphne arbuscula DAPHNE arbuscula
This is a delightful small evergreen to "football size" for the alpine garden with almost disproportional large, deep pink flowers in mid summer. Comparatively long, thin, very dark green leaves.
from £15.00

DAPHNE arbuscula f. albiflora
A difficult plant to grow on account of the rather hairy leaves, which make it vulnerable to winter wet. However the white flowers make this a real stunner, aging to pink to give a gorgeous "apple-blossom" effect.

DAPHNE arbuscula Clone 88/14

DAPHNE arbuscula 'Muran Pride'
Seemingly impossibly large magenta pink flowers.

Daphne arbuscula Radicans Daphne arbuscula 'Radicans'
This form does not appear, as a young plant at least, to differ a great deal, but we maintain it with a separate name in the interests of accuracy. Theoretically it should be lower growing. Whatever the case, it does really well for us here and is what I describe as "a good doer".

Daphne Beauworth DAPHNE 'Beauworth'
